Try Something New
While In conversation with another, I learned she worked with prison inmates convicted of the worst crimes and sentenced to death. Her observation was that while you encounter seemingly nice people in restaurants, department stores or walking in a nice part of town, you never know who these people truly are. She concluded that it is never safe to say “hello” to someone you do not know well.
Understanding her employment for 20 years, I could understand where she was coming from. On the other hand, I recognized it would be difficult to live life in fear of others. In your job search, on interviews and as an entrepreneur, it is important to use good judgment while reaching out to others as potential connections. Calculated risk is an essential part of business and relationship development, qualifying and finding the better match between all parties.
