“‘Tis the season to be jolly career and personal…”

While the holidays are usually a joyous time for friends and family to gather, some people experience additional stress.  For example, you may need to prepare extra food, add errands to your already long list, or be friendly with people of whom you aren’t so fond.

Likewise, in business we always have long lists of “have to’s” in addition to our regular routine.  Keeping the running task list and crossing off completed items increases efficiency.  While we don’t necessarily cook for our clients or hiring managers during interviews, we may sometimes take them out for a meal or meet for coffee.  Waiting for one another to arrive and eating at the same time is the proper etiquette just as if you were in someone’s home to have a meal together.

And for the people you encounter at an event with whom you do not feel comfortable smile anyway.  Be as polite as possible and then move on to another.  In business, act similarly but if it is a sole potential client, excuse yourself from conducting future business.

Remember “’tis the season to be jolly…”  so be with those who make you happy.  The stress will minimize and the holidays more joyous.  Applying the same to business wlll make the entire year a happier one too and more easily lead you to the Smooth Sale!
