“Must Have Done Something Wrong – They Love Me!”

There are times when we receive no response on a subject we deem highly important. We then begin to second guess ourselves thinking, “Did I say or do something wrong; have I offended the other person?”  Next, the stress sets in and causes sleepless nights.  You can tell I’ve been there.

Frequently email is not seen or possibly deleted by accident.  Systems may be down, unbeknownst to us, preventing the message to ever be sent.  Rather than worry and creating unnecessary drama in our life, a far better approach is to be of the mindset to follow-up and ask if our question or statement was received and understood.

A few things transpire for the better when you do follow-up.  Your professionalism is demonstrated as is your caring about the previous conversation.  This tightens the original bond and serves to further build your relationship.  This is a far better scenario than imagining you did something to put the hiring manager or your next potential client off to the point of killing the intended sale.  Instead, you are headed for an improved conversation and a meeting of minds helping one another to further business.

Following up will have people loving you for the added effort on their behalf.  This leads to encouraging hearing either HIRED! or SOLD!  And follow-up will lead you to the Smooth Sale!
