Response Required

Have you ever received an offer that you believed either didn’t fully apply to you or was meant for another?  Sometimes we guess incorrectly. Today’s example is a fun reminder.

We live in an area known for haute cuisine, organic farming and great wines. To our delight, we were introduced to a woman who delivers fresh laid eggs to our door once per week.  Her email arriving stating there was a shortage of eggs but to let her know if we were in need of any.  Trying to be a good samaritan, I wrote that she should put me at the bottom of the list as I could wait until the following week.

To my surprise, the doorbell rang first thing Monday morning.  The email scared everyone else off, and so, ironically, I was the only one to receive eggs!

Your response may also be a new opportunity to turn a situation around for an improved outcome.  Job seekers who unexpectedly encounter a person seeking to hire someone with their talent should, speak up.  Another example is of a party trying to sell another a ticket to his event. The recipient volunteered that the next time they have a similar event to keep her in mind as their next  keynote speaker.

No one can read your mind.  When the rules aren’t clear to offer your parameters as part of a negotiation to see where it may lead.  Be of the mindset to speak up.  You may be pleasantly surprised as well as headed for the Smooth Sale!
