The Nice Girl Method:
Prior to leaving a message, research the person or company ahead of time. LinkiedIn makes the personal information accessible, as does a Google search. Most companies have a website or information online. Find talking points of commonality as you read to include in a very short message, in case the person is not available.
Avoid a sales sounding message. Instead, create a one-minute message that includes the commonality and an intriguing point as to why the party should call you back. Most of all don’t memorize; instead sound natural and authentic. This is your personal brand at stake each and every time.
– Leave your phone number twice in the case a number is not enunciated well the first time.
– State, “at your convenience either call or email”
– Promise, “to make it easy, I will send an email so you have it and include a choice of dates and times for us to meet”
Sometimes you are on the other side of the table requiring a service but calls aren’t returned.
Direct Strategies:
– Ask the referring party to “encourage” the provider to return your call
– State the deadline for completed work at the beginning of your message. Request a timeline from getting started to completion. Include, “If you are able to do this, please call ASAP to get started with an estimate. Otherwise, I’ll need to move on.”
Getting the referring party involved usually does the trick. The timeline and finish date are essential for the other party to hear urgency motivating a return call.
As the selling party, the timeline and delivery date should be stated upfront and agreed to in every meeting and then adhered to every time. As a job seeker, you need to secure the estimated hire date from the employer.
Timeliness, efficiency and remaining true to your word will lead you to the Smooth Sale!
