Are you keeping the door open?

The phrase, “When one door closes another opens” became loud and clear this past week.  A good friend exited from one particular corporate opportunity.  It was an agonizing decision with much sleep lost over the pros and cons of contemplating leaving.  Susan did leave and slowly regained composure.  By so doing, she recognized that her personal project is a great fit for the company she left.

Good instinct produced the resignation completed on excellent terms.  Upon contacting the managing partner, Susan soon had an appointment to discuss a new alliance as equals.  They are now in talks as to how Susan may train some of the employees on skills in which she excels.

Another component to this for entrepreneurs is to turn acquaintances, with whom you feel a close synergy, into good friends.  I just called one such good friend today about my own difficult decision to be made.  Hearing me out, she was able to intuitively and practically guide me through the decision making process.  At the end, I knew she was right and thanked her for allowing me the time and compassion to talk it out.

An open door comes in many varieties.  Sometimes we are the ones to help others.  By graciously exiting a career position or holding an open door to answer questions for acquaintances, we find bigger networks and better qualified connections.  This produces more opportunity for business and referrals.
