Spiraling Upward, Part 2
More than ever as opportunities begin to pop up, I tell others that I am always happy to hear their new ideas or get their perspective on issues. The reason being is, the more open you can make yourself to different thought, the greater becomes the potential for new opportunity. This is true on the job and in working with clients. And recently it seems as if a switch was turned on for good things happening once again.
Another component is to be willing to meet whether online, by phone or in-person with whomever you trusted friends suggest you meet. Sometimes the fit will not be particularly good, but, on the occasion when it is, it makes the effort of connecting well-worthwhile. The other side of the coin is to reciprocate by asking friends and connections what and who they are seeking, and then make the referral when appropriate.
Last night, a friend surprised me by saying he was once a recruiter and has given some thought about going back into that industry. About 12 hours later, another told me his idea for building a recruiting team. Before providing a name, I asked my friend if he would be interested and should the answer be, yes, then I’ll make the appropriate connection.
Whether you are seeking a job or a client, keeping an open mind to meeting a variety of people will increase the opportunities before you. It’s a wonderful feeling when you get to choose which one to accept. Today I had the pleasure of meeting Vicki Donlan by phone. I was very impressed by her background and the knowledge she freely shares about business and how she succeeded in the newspaper business. Vicki and I will be complementing one another at the Women’s Executive Retreat in Las Vegas to enable attendees to spiral their mindset and business upward.
