My Story
I was taught to always answer questions with a question. At first, the reaction to this advice is, “what?!” Some think it’s rude not to immediately give an appropriate answer. However by using this strategy, I am able to provide a much improved answer.
In particular, business meetings and job interviews invariably raise complicated issues that produce numerous questions in one’s mind. Before committing to an answer, I find it best to get all of the facts out in the open. I learned to discuss all of the nuances and possibilities first through question and answer.
This type of dialogue has me well-positioned to pinpoint exactly what the prospective client is seeking. Instead of viewing me as avoiding questions, I become seen as someone who spends extra time digging deeper into situations to find the best possible solution.
The end result of answering a question with a question, is that of building trust and sound relationships over time. Accordingly, sales grow with greater ease.
