The same two approaches exist for all endeavors: A person either studies to narrowly define how to approach the subject in question or will be open to all possibilities to later determine which works the best.  Whichever category best describes you, be cognizant of how you approach what you do.  Above all, consistency is key to succeeding.  It is also the key to further developing your personal brand. Altogether, you will find that the effort to build networks for growth opportunities becomes well-worthwhile.

When it comes to building networks on social media platforms, some will only connect with those they know or with friends of friends.    They have well-defined expertise and only wish to connect with those associated with the same industry.  When the need to seek new work arises, these folks are in a space where connections are acquainted with their work and ready to help them with referrals.

The other group is open to connecting with those they do not know.  Any reluctance in connecting will first include an internet search to learn more and to give the person the benefit of the doubt.  They also reach out to connect with those in a high-ranking capacity whether in the same field of endeavor or not.  The advantage of the more open approach will occasionally invite unsolicited invitations for a job interview or interest in one’s business.

Whether you belong to the first or second group, it is advised that each day you search for people to connect with that catch your interest.  Ideas for connecting include similar work, projects or community service of interest, and people you know in common.  Your network as well as those of the people with whom you connect, begin to grow exponentially over time.  This becomes your branding-marketing program that works on your behalf and attracts a far wider audience than you could on your own. This becomes ideal for seeking work and growing a business.

Another benefit is that most small businesses do not have the funds to hire advertising, marketing, or public relations people to help them out.  But the online connections steadily growing in numbers and are well-qualified, will over time, become an excellent secondary way to achieve goals. 

Perseverance and daily effort of asking to connect will enhance your pursuit of work or building of the business. Upon seeing you actively grow your networks, others will begin to request a connection with you.
