Does your blog feel like a lonely place–a black hole in cyberspace? Don’t abandon your beloved ship just yet. By following a few quick and easy steps, you can increase your following, improve reader engagement, and amply populate your blog’s neck of the galactic woods.
1. Create great content
This is the most important rule. Without cleverly crafted prose on interesting and relevant topics, your blog will never achieve a loyal following. If you don’t have this, you may as well forego trying out the remaining steps. You blog will only be as good–and as popular–as your blog posts.
2. Dazzle their senses
No one wants to looks at a giant wall of text–no matter how steeped in academia their big brain may be. You need to mix it up and add some visual and audio spice to your content. Post videos, include high-quality photos, and use different font styles and colors. Add humor with comics, increase informational value with infographics, and explain comparisons with graphs or charts.
3. Pose Questions
If you want your reader’s input, ask for it. Pose questions and actively solicit a response. A great way to generate content that will interest your audience is to ask them what they’re interested in reading about. You can also close your posts with a query that compels your followers to share their opinions and comments. As Bob Parsons, GoDaddy President, says, “When it comes to the Internet, people like dealing with people.” So show your readers that you’re a real person by asking for their opinions.
