Charley, does the world really need another email marketing service?

Email is still king and email marketing still, sits at the top of the online marketer’s toolbox. It’s simply the most popular and effective way to communicate with those interested in your product or service.

As a software company launching our first product, we turned to a popular email delivery service when we wanted to start our own email marketing campaigns. It didn’t go well. It was overly complicated, cumbersome and the premium versions were fairly expensive.

We were disappointed at how long it took and how complicated it was to send out a simple email marketing campaign. If they were a leading provider of email marketing services, what could we expect from others?

We saw there was a lot of room for improvement and decided to build something better, more powerful, yet easier to use. Much easier.

So we did just that.  Say Hi to Charley.

Why is Charley your next email marketing platform?

It’s easy to make a complicated product. It’s infinitely harder to make a complicated product simple.

Most great ideas start by solving a problem you’re faced with. If you solve it better than others, there’s a good chance you’ll attract those that face similar problems. We built Charley to be a better email marketing solution for ourselves. In our product planning meetings, most of the best ideas started with the phrase “wouldn’t it be cool if…” Then we did it. We showed a customer. Got their feedback and made it better…

For instance, we’d send out a mailing and we’d get a nice report with the percentage of people that opened it, how many people clicked and any signups. But what about: all the people that opened and didn’t buy? How do I follow up with them? How do I make more in sales after an email campaign goes out?

So we came up with Haystacker, which helps you find the ‘needles in your haystack’. It intelligently combs through all the activity after a mailing is sent and tells you exactly who engaged the most. After all, someone that opened your mailing 6x and forwarded it to 3 friends is probably a pretty good prospect.

Haystacker sends you a very easy-to-understand report with exactly how well your campaign did, as well as a list of every good prospect that came out of that campaign. It even attaches a spreadsheet file of your prospects so you can more easily import it into your sales database or retarget them on Facebook! These are the golden leads, the needles in a haystack, delivered to your inbox. Practically magic.

Is this possible to do on other platforms? Maybe, but probably not. Is it easy? Definitely not.

Optimize your email send time based on when each individual either last opened an email from you or last visited your website. This gives you the best opportunity to engage with them when you know they are most likely to see your email.


When you blast out an email to your subscriber list, a small percentage actually open the email. Normally, those that missed it the first time are just lost opportunities. Another example of a ‘wouldn’t it be cool’ moment was when we said, what if we only want to send the email again to those that missed it the first time. Voila. Huge timesaver and it’s proven to increase opens by over 52%! All done with one click of a checkbox.

Smart List Builder

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could build a list of all the visitors that opened your last email newsletter, clicked through to visit your website, looked at least 3 pages but didn’t end up making a purchase? With Charley’s Smart List builder, you don’t need to have a list to start with to send a campaign, you can have us, build one dynamically based any activity you want!
