Attract the Right Job or Clientele: How to Increase Interest In What We Do
Two conversations magnified the need to speak to how we may each increase client potential. It begins with first attracting an interested audience. The major concern discussed is whether we are to initially take a negative or a positive line of thought. Our ideas incorporate both the sales and marketing perspectives. The winning element is the human touch.
Speak to the question, “Why should I care?”
My Story
As I began the journey of sales, many coaches suggested to “hammer the pain points” of my intended clientele. Some sales professionals chose to do just that. And only that. Negativity paved the way. It translated to making the prospective clients feel bad about their own efforts. Ultimately, those salespeople did not sell as well as they should have
Instead, I experimented with a gentler approach. This consisted of inquiry, listening and asking intelligent questions. The conversations greatly improved. I found that the dialogue became even more engaging when personal stories were added to the conversation. This approach was the one that had me taking the lead when it came to sales numbers.
Headlines
Similarly, headlines for blogs and articles are presented with either a negative or a positive wording. We discussed which style might prove to be more effective. My approach is to focus on hope and possibility. The positive headline speaks to securing an improved outcome. In alignment with this, and the law of attraction, those who think positively are more drawn to my work.
Profiles
Each social media platform provides us with the opportunity to post our picture and something about our background. Wherever possible, include a short story of how you came to your profession with a catchy headline or tagline. This does a lot for increasing interest and inquiries for business opportunities. The decision is yours of whether to include a negative or positive message.
Subject Matter
Traditional sales meetings as well as casual conversation should focus on what is on the other person’s mind. Salespeople get to the heart of the matter as to why they were called in for a meeting. An excellent strategy for networking is to inquire about the projects of the people you meet. This produces an enthusiastic conversation which then becomes the development ground for a collaborative effort.
Your Story
Be very honest with yourself about the type of audience you prefer.
- Are you wanting to find opportunity with those who are fearful and afraid of change?
- Is your desire to work with those who are open to unlimited possibility?
Upon having a firm commitment to your audience, you are then ready to develop the conversation, along with targeted products and services that they desire. One sales motto is, “Speak to the needs, wants and deep down desires of your intended clientele.”
Once the initial decision is made about your desired audience, then you will know how to tailor your information and conversations. The same applies to advancing your career and subsequent job interviews that will come your way. Each decision made will determine future opportunities.
