Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

One Request Confirms Five Key Success Strategies

A good friend who has been highly successful both in the employed and entrepreneurial realms asked me to join forces on a project.  Also well aware of her standard of ethics and professionalism, there was no need to think about it, the agreement was instantly made.

Benefits include

Introductions to people who might have insight on how to improve the novel idea were requested and I was happy to oblige.  However, information was short.  In particular, coming from a sales background, I was suggested that benefits of her service be shared upfront. Short bulleted points suffice, just to gain attention in a brief email introduction to colleagues.

Inquire vs. Push

Today was the perfect example of a “push call”.  Out of the blue, someone called to say, “I know a long time ago you hired a coach, and you need one again.”   It was an insulting approach with no facts to back it up, and almost felt as if it were an invasion of privacy. You don’t have to think hard on how this call ended!

A better approach is to inquire politely with a brief sentence about why you are calling or messaging, and ask if the other party might be interested.  In this case, you preserve your integrity and personal brand.  A ‘no’ is okay and a ‘yes’ is even better!

Specific Audience

My friend suggested I concentrate on specific individuals I already know and who have some familiarity with her subject matter but potentially would like to increase their knowledge.

Given it was a busy day, I thought of the perfect singular person. Intuition was right and a swift response was received.  Jokingly, I said now that’s a highly targeted list, and a 100% response rate!

Joking aside, consider how you approach others.  Do you do the familiar email and social media blasts, or do you recognize precisely who will more likely want to take advantage of your latest offering?

The same applies to the job hunt.  By being very specific and targeting the preferred companies and positions available, you will be far more likely to find one that will be satisfying and rewarding.

Follow-up

When someone says, “not now”, ask “when?”  Note the date and follow up.  In the case above, the follow-up will be when I hear back that the person is in fact interested.

Collaborate

To extend your audience, ask your clientele if they may recommend someone they know who could use the same service.  Brainstorm with peers, and offer help to friends.  The more you can be of service to others the more opportunity will arrive at your doorstep.  This is another example of the Smooth Sale!
