Do you have business emergency preparedness measures in place?
In California we always hear about earthquake emergency preparedness. Trust me, when a computer fails, it feels like an emergency earthquake! Rather than detailing my past and recent woes and those of a colleague today, I have listed a few ideas for you to consider:
1. Hire a service to remotely backup your files as they are updated. It is too time-consuming to attempt to do it yourself. The task is sometimes forgotten and then suddenly you find yourself completely out of luck. By hiring the service out, you have time to focus on your core business – building relationships with your clientele. The service recommended to me was ITOK.com and they do an outstanding job (my hide was saved!)
2. Research the right contact management system for your business. The significance of follow-up cannot be over-stated. Again networked based is the better way to go in my opinion. When you travel you are able to access your contacts, calendar and email anywhere and any time. It is your marketing message for your attention to customer service that demonstrates you are credible and trustworthy. Recently, I chose salesforce.com
3. You can never go wrong with a simple manual back-up system. I strongly encourage you to consider a daytime calendar for your appointments. Years ago, when my computer literally smoked, I was thankful that I had such a system in place. My calendar never leaves my desk and I know every day how to arrange my time.
Your business is dependent upon your communication systems. Having everything in order and efficiently following through will help you in a big way to close more sales – and they will be a Smooth Sale!
