Eliminating Time Wasters in Meetings
Invariably, when you have a team meeting be it in the corporate setting or among peers, there are one or two people who drone on and on about their personal experiences. Meanwhile others are impatiently looking at the clock not hearing what is being said. Wasting time is what will hurt business and career the most; efficiency counts.
Another annoyance is when a few do not not allow others to ask their question because they continually monopolize the meeting. Those not able to pose their question learn to never try again simply giving up. The meeting would be richer with all questions and input of ideas.
So what do you do and how do you communicate a new approach in a friendly marketing message type of way?
If you are in charge, set guidelines for participation. Request every participant remain on target with their answers and, within an allotted minute or two, due to projects needing to get compeleted. Should an idea be up for discussion, go around the table. Consider a timer in order to get everyone accustomed to finishing within an allotted time. I experienced this at a new networking event recently, and it actually felt as if we were meeting with an exclusive Board of Directors. Everyone left the meeting re-energized and with new ideas they were eager to pursue.
The end result of any meeting should be just that – motivating attendees to embrace new ideas.
