Picture This: Another Way to Use Social Media

Have you ever caught a glimpse of an old acquaintance online but quickly moved on to another matter?  Did you later give thought to the person?

When I encounter a picture of someone that makes me wonder how they are doing, I message them.  Most often it turns into a friendly phone call.  On two of these occasions, our chat turned into creating new  collaborative venues and a re-energized friendship.

For example, a few years ago, I noticed someone’s picture on Facebook with whom I had lost connection. By reconnecting, we created a career development fair that attracted hundreds of attendees.  The attendance and gratitude expressed for my information shared encouraged me to write the book, HIRED!

Recently, I saw another picture on LinkedIn.  She was instantly sent a message, and today we reconnected.  At the end, we recognized a way in which the two of us may also collaborate.  Now, imagine connecting with someone associated with the company where you wish to work – the possibilities are enormous!
