Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

7 Sales Tips for Writing Move You to “Yes!”

I continue to learn about combing sales with effective writing that will move you to “Yes!” Style and acceptable grammar have changed considerably.

The following guidelines apply to client proposals as well as to writing for all purposes including email and online postings. Likewise, as a job seeker communicates with a hiring manager on an interview or in writing, the same guidelines should seriously be considered.

The most important principle for writing today coincides with the most important sales principle of all: “Keep it Simple”.

Simplicity

Given the heavy use of portable devices it is more important than ever to stick to short sentences. I was told to eliminate commas and other punctuation wherever possible.

Personalize

Share a personal story or example upfront that leads into the reason for your meeting. Or use your story at the beginning of your writing to draw your reader in to learn more.

Sub Headings: move you to Yes!

The sub headings make it easy to speed-read. Readers are then able to focus on the areas most important for them. Additionally the subheadings allow for quick scrolling on the mobile devices.

The same suggestion applies to the topics in your proposals. Clients appreciate the clear and concise language for easy comprehension. In some cases, proposals will need to be shared with other members of the team who weren’t able to make the meeting. Interpretation is then required if you aren’t invited to be at that next meeting. The clearer your communication, the more likely you will get the sale.

Bullets / Numbers

A specific point stated in one sentence is more emphatic when followed by a bulleted or numbering system. The point is more likely to be remembered as the list drives home the “why” the initial point made is so important.

Examples

I’m the type who does not enjoy people that pontificate so I try my best to include observed examples. These observations provide the “why” the idea is important. This principle is similar to the advertising model of the “before” and ‘after”.

Share what you observed that wasn’t done well and the poor outcome experienced by others or by you. Then describe the solution as you see it and the anticipated outcome that may be experienced.

Conclusion: Effecting Writing That Will Move You to “Yes!”

Recap why you wrote what you did and the favorable outcome for the readers who pay attention. The recap is an essential part of effective writing that will move you to “Yes!”

Availability

Invite questions every time. The questions provide insight as to what else your clientele needs to know. They also prompt new ideas for additional materials to write. Therefore the invited questions become a win-win for all which is another sales principle to live by.

Lastly, a major key for securing sales is to always make available how others may contact you. This is the crowning glory of making it easy to do business with you.
