Attract the Right Job or Clientele: Are You Timely in Every Respect?
Your personal brand is dependent upon being known as timely in every respect. This may include being up to date on the latest software or becoming known in your field for delivering the best. Another component is the question of do you deliver what is expected on time.
Professionalism in all regards is keenly observed and speaks volumes about your personal brand.
My Story
Today I had a previously arranged appointment on my calendar. It was more of a personal nature but it would take time away from conducting business. And it was scheduled for late morning. To my surprise, I was told to return 20 minutes later. But it didn’t end there. Returning at the designated time, I had to endure an additional 25 minute wait.
Upon leaving, I suggested to the receptionist that in the future she call those who will encounter delayed appointments. It was added that it isn’t fair to waste anyone’s time particularly those who work. But, I was made out to be the “bad guy” for expecting a call upfront. The irony of all this is that it is a professional training school for students behind this poorly delivered service.
Improved Strategy
There is no denying that sometimes emergencies arise and keeping appointments cannot be guaranteed 100%. However, there is no excuse for not notifying someone that you will be late. And a heads up notice should be provided at the first possible thought you might be late.
The second step is to ask permission to connect at the time you believe you are able to make it, or request a different date and time. If the latter, provide a choice of dates for the other party to choose. When you do connect, thank the other person for being so accommodating.
The topic includes more than just arriving or delivering service on time. Acknowledging the other person’s valued time builds respect, trust, and relationships. You become known as the person that may be counted upon. Accordingly further business develops.
