Do you have your own “special” space?

The end of the year, I always clean up my desk (yes you can actually see it now!), email and all else that catches my eye. Doing so helps me to remain focused on my goals and moving forward as quickly as possible in the New Year.

My project was to purchase a bulletin board to hang over my desk. The board now features a combination of the high-points of my 11 year corporate sales history and 7 years as an entrepreneur.

I proudly hung: A cartoon of a salesperson dressed as Pinocchio; my Seinfeld-style resignation letter from my last corporate job; favorite Dilbert cartoons; pictures of me as a speaker, as a vendor, and of my product line; Thank You notes from clients; an invitation to interview for an Online International Conference; and the most incredible astrological forecast I’ve ever seen – and – for 2010!

Why would you care? All combined, my space provides a snapshot of who I am reflecting my standard of ethics, customer service policies, communication and leadership skills, and is a visualization of what I teach – building relationships, and how to over-deliver on expectations so that you earn a returning and referring clientele.

Should you do something similar, you will find looking at your space each morning brings a smile to your face. The reminder of who you are charges your mindset to one of confidence and you will be further motivated to keep on going!

The first day of work after vacation, I was back on the phone making calls to prospects, clients and potential partners. Your space actually encourages your business development. And when all is in place, you happily experience the Smooth Sale!

P.S. Make it a very Happy New Year – create your space!
