Believe in Self to Achieve More

While speaking with “George”, regarding his new job hunt, I mentioned the wisdom of seeking work above one’s perceived capabilities.  By doing so, you find yourself challenged, and become even more motivated to get up to speed in order to prove to yourself and everyone else on the team, you can do it!  

While stressful initially, pushing yourself beyond what you believe is your limit, the added effort does wonders for career satisfaction and will launch you more quickly to yet another high level.  This is the same strategy entrepreneurs employ to fast track their business.

Upon hearing the idea of applying for a job beyond his capabilities, George played down his true capabilities.  More importantly, he didn’t realize how others see him in action.  He has the unique ability to implement engineering know-how plus socially educate those who don’t understand the technical nature of what their business requires.  George was reminded that few are as adept as he.  

George admitted that he should always remind himself of his inherent talent prior to interviews in order to come across as the consummate professional.  The same principle is true for salespeople prior to client meetings.  While you don’t want to come across as boastful, you will do well to come across as professional, knowledgeable and able to help solve problems.  Coupling this demeanor with true interest in the other party will serve to build credibility and trust that leads to the Smooth Sale!
