Moving Past the MisUnderstanding
In life we have arguments, and in business misunderstandings occur all the time. You can tell it has been quite a week given this is the week-long theme. Sales skills for negotiating come in quite handy for moving past the mis-understanding.
In the early years, it was important for me to prove I was right but the outcome wasn’t as happy as it might have been. Luckily I evolved into the world of sales and negotiation to learn how to produce an improved outcome. Being the brave one to begin helps immensely.
Whether career-related or personal, by initiating the process you appoint yourself as the leader. Ask for a meeting to discuss how you may resolve any lingering issues. Although difficult at times, do your best to speak calmly and professionally. The other person may be visually angry and sound loud, but this is good because they get the vemon out into the open. Once done, they will be amazed your listened. Now that you know what’s on their mind you are able to present your perception of the matter to their interest.
Point out specifically where the misundertanding took place. Ask for ideas on how the issue(s) may be settled. Discuss those ideas that are do-able and be honest regarding the ones that are not. Should a timeline be required, ask to negotiate that too. Your demeanor and leading of the conversation should put you on the path to a better tomorrow and the Smooth Sale are found.
