“Love the One You’re With”

In honor of Valentine’s Day, my mind flashed back to long ago when the song title, “Love the One You’re With” became a big hit.  On the surface it sounds right, but as you dig into the lyrics, it’s questionable.  And believe it or not, yes, it does apply to your job, business and loved ones.

The mystery lyrics in approximation are, “…if you are feeling down and out, and aren’t with the one you love, then love the one you’re with.”

Where this applies to business is the qualification stage.  Do you want a solid relationship among those with whom you work or are you just passing through at lighting speed, “cherry picking” as the expression goes?  Whether you choose just taking what you can get or looking into the future to build a solid foundation, the choice is affected by your mindset.  And your mindset affects your marketing messaging, and perception of your leadership and trustworthiness.  All of this certainly affects potential repeat busienss, referrals and testimonials, size of sales and the livelihood of your business.

Your business, career and all relationships will remain stronger when you hold your bigger vision close to heart and work toward it each and every day.  Qualifying the type of customer service experience you wish to deliver and to the type of clientele or industry, will keep you on a more direct path to give life to your vision.

On this Valentine’s Day, when you truly love your work and energetically move with passion, that’s when you experience the Smooth Sale.
