Improving Communication Strategies
Recent incidents led to the realization some tips should be shared regarding making claims, providing referrals, and follow-up. In order to build a strong personal brand, values, priorities and consistency should be held in check for every activity.

1. Making Claims
Claims need to be 100% truthful for clients and on job interviews. The slightest variation will only take credibility away along with potential business or career growth.
For example, “Elizabeth” called to say she was referred to me as I was someone who greatly benefitted from “Joan’s” publishing services. Yet Joan and I never met until a few years after my first book was originally published. This prompted me to contact the person who actually provided the excellent service due to the two knowing one another.
2. Offering Referrals
The same person, “Joan” who claimed she helped me, provided Elizabeth with 10 referrals. The problem is only 30% of those referrals were to be found online. Not a very impressive stat and certainly could discourage anyone from proceeding with that type of service.
When you make referrals, be certain the people are in business, doing well and hold similar values. Otherwise, it looks you do not care about details or good customer service; that you are only in it for the money. Referrals are a reflection upon you.
3. Avoid Assumptions by Asking Questions
Change your mindset to positive thought because it will be heard during the communciation. Should there be a delay in receiving an order, ask if questions exist or if further help is required. Your prospective client will let you know where they stand when properly asked.
