Observations From the Field: What males and females may learn from one another.
In some respects, it appears men and women think differently. When it comes to approaching business and career, it is wise to learn from one another.
Observation is the best teacher. Below is the male-female scorecard and suggestions to add to your business model what the other already does.
Ask for directions – female
Yes, we do have GPS but there are other directions to be provided. If you are on a job interview or making a sales call, you most definitely will want to ask for the next steps are, or what you next need to provide, in order to achieve your goal.
Accept opportunity and then figure it out – male
When exciting opportunity is presented that seems as if it is far past your capability, say Yes, and get the help you need. Men will accept while for many females, fear takes over and the opportunity is declined.
Be concerned others do like you – female
You may get the first sale due to the client not knowing where else to turn, but future sales will go to someone else unless you continually strive to build the relationship.
Don’t let others intimidate you – male
For the most part men speak with a bigger ego, however, it does diminish the number of people speaking down to them. Women should be nice only to a point, and then standup and be counted when necessary. Recall past experiences and rehearse possible comebacks with peers to prevent it from happening again.
Have an agenda but be flexible – tie
In their quest to build relationships, females will try harder to find a friendly solution to move forward, but men are more likely to be trained in the finer points of negotiation.
Sell Value – female
Men appear to be more anxious to get the sale versus sell value. Whereas wanting to do right by the client, the women find ways to build more value and avoid rapidly dropping the price.
Never give up! – male
Perseverance is the ultimate strategy for attaining any goal you set for yourself. Men appear to have the stronger drive.
