How Effective Are Your Responses?

Social media is a wonderful tool both personally and professionally in that it allows us to connect with others worldwide.  However we need to understand that it is our response that will either bring poor or excellent results.  Are you willing to do your due dilligence before pressing reply?

Recently I was introduced online to someone in a similar field.  I was actually appalled by “Sam’s” response.  Instead of finding out something about me prior to responding, he launched into what he assumed to be appropriate.  Sadly, it wasn’t appropriate at all.  I was invited to come to his office for coaching lessons. Interestingly, his office s located in a different state.  Sam assumed I know nothing about business or sales so he suggested I purchase his beginner’s sales book or package it with his sales training courses.  You get the idea, and the fact, I was very annoyed.

A better strategy would have been to either review my profile on the site, visit my website or check out my social media presence.  He could have even done a Google search to make it easy on himself.  But instead, Sam chose to do nothing.  How likely is it that myself or anyone treated similarly will want to explore ways to collaborate?  This was the original intention for the third-party introduction.

On a similar note, when invited to interview,  be certain to get the spelling of the first and last names of the people with whom you will meet.  Do a little upfront research so that you will have familiar talking points ready to go when you meet.  You will be far more likely to find commonality and make a great impression to be invited back for another round and quite possibly hear HIRED!

Proceeding in a friendly, interested, and genuine manner is the most effective way to respond to queries.  This style is what will put you on the wave of the Smooth Sale!
