Eliminate the Excuses!
Let’s face it, sometimes life just gets in the way. You have an exciting appointment and don’t want to miss the opportunity but suddenly the car isn’t yours, your child needs to be somewhere or an unforeseen medical appointment is at the very same time. How do you save the opportunity by encouraging a reschedule?
First and foremost, do not make excuss, because when you do it sounds as if you are putting the opportunity in second chair. Instead use a sentence that everyone can relate to such as,
“Sometimes life happens and I have to apologize. May we please reschedule as I was very much looking forward to our appointment.”
It woul be very difficult for anyone to take offense with those two sentences. However should someone become upset, the opportunity isn’t worth hearing about because they would be very self-serving people. Likewise, when someone needs to reschedule with you, remember the same. Be forgiving, understanding and open to rescheduling. Your positive mindset is your best marketing and sales tool in your possession.
By the time you do connect, both of you will be more relaxed because you know the other is easy to work with. And when you are more relaxed, greater opportunity usually presents itself whether you are interviewing for a job or meeting with a prospective client. The message of being easy to work with precedes your meeting and usually empowers your ability to make the sale.
Looking back, it will seem as if the steps were all a Smooth Sale!
