Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Build the Conversation On Social Media

Andrea Reed of Upwork.com Inspired today’s Blog, build the conversation on social media.

Social media has removed boundaries from making new friends and clientele. In fact, it made the entire process of hunting for clients so much easier as we build the conversation on social media as it turned the sales cycle upside down.

What do I mean?

In the older days, we had to pursue a territory to hunt down prospects and then convert them into clients. Today, sitting at your computer whether at work, at home, or on vacation, just by messaging your thoughts, you will attract those to what you have to say. Business became a whole lot easier!

The only sticky point is proper communication tact at all times.  Be certain to read “Why Social customer Service Matters and How to Do It Right”, and then read the tips below on how to Respond to Undesirable Comments to always be seen in a favorable light.

Responding to Undesirable Comments

But nothing is ever 100%. In fact, questions asked of me include, “How do you handle uncomfortable remarks online?”  These conversations are seen by many so is there a better method than just ignoring undesirable remarks?

Rude Remarks

When a less than desirable comment is directed toward you, it’s your duty to respond. Otherwise, others will see you are admitting the statement as true. You need to meet it swiftly and to the point. However, diplomacy is an absolute requirement.

By taking the higher road in your usage of a thoughtful reply, the other person’s once perceived strength is clearly diminished. This type of response shows you are confident, anoints you with credibility, and thrusts you into the position of leadership.  The high road will lead you to building the conversation on social media.

Example:

In the corporate sales environment I once encountered an exceedingly rude prospective client. I withdrew my offer of help but said I knew of another who would be a better match. He just happened to be the most egotistical salesperson I ever encountered. A month later they both called to say thank you! I believe they wound up dating – a match made in heaven. J

Perspective

Another possibility is lack of understanding of what you previously said. It could be a cultural or language barrier or lack of experience in your field. On the other hand, a tweet is brief and so some facts may have been omitted.

The best approach is to thank the person for their inquiry and explain how you came to your position. End your statement with asking if the person has any remaining questions, you are there to help. Doing so brings additional admirers.

Example:

“Your experience may have proved this to be true, but mine is very different and here is my perspective…”

Learning

Even the least appreciate remarks provide lessons to be learned. Those that irritate you the most usually have an element of truth attached. Punch a pillow to get the aggression out of your system, but then stop to consider where improvement may be made. And only then respond to the person and thank them for their insight. Simply say Thank You. Your followers will be impressed, and the person on the other end will fade away.

Example:

Years ago, I proudly showed my new self-published book to someone. He meanly said, “If your book were any good a publisher would have picked it up.” I nodded, and the next day sought a publisher. That book became “Nice Girls DO Get the Sale” – an international best-seller!

Personal Brand

Your personal brand is at the heart of all of your communication. It affects how others see you, rate your integrity, and trust in what you have to offer. By communicating effectively and with compassion, you will rate high on their meter rating scale.
