Do You Turn Annoyances into Content Marketing?
Have you ever become so annoyed with someone else’ thoughtless behavior, the realization hit that you can turn annoyances into content marketing? No doubt the answer is “Yes I have!”
There are numerous options for handling these. The main point to remember is the Disney saying, “It’s a small world after all.”
Options:
- Get angry and say something you might regret
The urge is there within each of us, but it’s best that the higher road be taken. Given the small world philosophy, using fowl language or putting another in their place may have that person bad mouthing you to people you both know. But you won’t be there to defend yourself.
- Argue with your next prospective client
On occasion, the person on the other side of the argument may turn out to be your next prospective client. And if that’s the case, this could play out poorly if they were to be familiar with some of your other clients. Even if you are 100% right, arguing isn’t worth taking the risk.
- Write and appropriately speak about the experience
One caution is to never use real names whether personal or company related. That last thing you want is for the communication to backfire and there you are with a reciprocated poor review on Yelp. You can’t take it back. As you write and speak about the experience, you begin to turn annoyances into content marketing!
On the other hand, once you do communicate whether through writing or verbally about what just transpired, the stress begins to diminish. And when you relay the incident according to your business or career point of view, it’s an opportunity to entertain as well as educate your potential clientele.
A sense of humor that everyone can appreciate is admired. By relaying the incidents so that readers and listeners get a good laugh, people will rally behind you to offer support.
The side benefit is that this approach may also serve to enhance your marketing effort by creating a blog, video or even an e-book filled with these types of incidents. And you will build a solid personal brand as others look to you for guidance on how to bypass obstacles.
