Do You Really Want Input?

Although we speak of sales mirroring life, sometimes our habits dictate otherwise.  It’s a joke between my husband and I whereby I’ll do something and then ask his opinion on whether or not it should be done.  For me, it’s a matter of talking it out after the fact and I have learned that many women do the same.  But for him, it’s more of an annoyance but laughable.

However, in the work world, it’s best to operate differently.  Particularly in sales where action needs to be taken, speak with seasoned professionals to get their insight.  Should time be on your side, there is much to be learned from multiple points of view.  On the other hand, when a split second decision needs to be made, act immediately and intuitively with your best instinct moving forward.

Do men and women operate differently in this manner?  Maybe.  Working with clients, prospects and when interviewing with potential new managers, ask how they prefer to communicate, their time-line and any other appropriate question to make certain you are on the same page.  The more in alignment you may be with another the more harmonious the relationship will be.
