What does the Giants’ World Series Victory have to do with Interviewing and Sales?
It was noticeable that the Giants were playing very differently this year from the recent past. Previously only Barry Bonds was in the news. While Mr. Bonds was adept at literally hitting the ball out of the park, no one else seemed to matter. Consequently they did not make it to the series. However, this year was entirely different in that the Giants played as a Team where everyone contributed to its success. The end result was last night they won the World Series!
When you are a job seeker looking for an interview leading to your desired job or career, you cannot go it alone. In fact, being the lone wolf hardly works for any endeavor including business and sales. You need to build a team around you. Your friends, colleagues, past associates and current people with whom you network whether in person or online are all potential candidates for your team.
It is up to you to narrowly define what you want, how you are going to get it and who will best be able to help you move forward. It’s a known fact that that the people you know and who trust you are the ones that will help you get the next job or spread good word of mouth about you and your business.
Sales, entrepreneurship and job interviewing follow the same process or sales cycle. It’s clearly defined in my new book, HIRED! How to Use Sales Techniques to Sell Yourself On Interviews.
