To Tell the Truth
Every once in a while we are faced with embarrassing situations particularly in the workplace or with clientele. In my opinion, the best action is to tell the truth. When you stick to the truth and are loyal to your principles, you maintain the integrity of your personal brand. This commands respect from most because few have the courage to do so.
Although fairly new on the job, someone I know spoke to H.R. regarding a tenured employee who spoke very rudely to her in front of an entire class. It was quesitonable whether my friend should mention it given it’s easier for new people to be fired than those who are tenured. Nevertheless she stuck to the truth and found it to be well appreciated by management and H.R. alike. She breathed a sigh of relief.
By the same token, years ago, and on occasion, I found it necessary to decline business from potential clients. The phrase I used was, “I withdraw my offer of help”. The funnier version of a similar scenario is when I knew of a very pushy salesperson, and I chose to introduce the rude prospect to him. A month later, I received a thank you note from each. It appeared as if the two wound up dating one another! All is well that ends well.
Sticking to the truth, principles, and maintaining your integrity will bring about the Smooth Sale!
