Put “Fun” into Negotiation
Most people dread negotiating; they view all offers as “take it or leave it”. This mindset puts a negative spin on the entire process, so frequently opportunities and fun outings are missed.

A simple example is, I was invited to coffee at a spot where I don’t particularly care for the coffee, it’s noisy and the store does not offer a great ambiance. The saving grace was I was asked for an alternative suggestion. Rather than conveying negative thoughts about the original suggestion, I mentioned another spot that is nearby, quiet, has a pretty setting over the river, and… they add a sprinkle of yummy chocolate to the coffee! That last part of the sentence is difficult for anyone to turn down.
The point is, when you have another preference, consider all the reasons why that might be and which of those reasons would most appeal to another. Present it in a light-hearted manner and you are far more likely to achieve the result you desire.
Should a recruiter ask you to go in for a job interview on a day that you are booked solid, rather than rearranging all, suggest another date due to your tight calendar. Also emphasize the interview is high on your list and wish to give it every opportunity. In this manner your marketing message is you are in high demand. You can bet your choice of dates and times will be seriously considered.
Likewise, during more serious business meetings, should a request come about on which you aren’t completely able to deliver upon, reframe the possibility. Ask the other party, out of curiosity, if they would consider a service delivered in the manner of X,Y,Z . Inquiring into their thought will provide added insight to their thinking which will lead you to a solution comfortable for all parties.
