Do You Face Challenges Head On?

There is a benefit to having Blab with your peer, in a good way of course, to ensure you face challenges head on.

When faced with a difficult challenge, envision the big picture to remind yourself why it’s worthwhile to pursue.

This morning, I was speaking with Miles Austin, CEO of Fill the Funnel, who had me appear as his guest on Blab. We began by exchanging insights on how we begin our mornings to get more done in a day.

Hearing me re-tell one short story, Miles made a very interesting observation about me. He said I have an unusual inclination to face challenges head on no matter how frightened I might be. He asked of  my motivator to do so.

My Story

In the very early stage of my sales career, I was a nervous wreck when needing to meet with a CEO. It came to my attention that public speaking would help me tremendously. Without a second thought, I registered for a 3 month Dale Carnegie speaking class.

The first day of the class, I was scared to have to announce my name in front of the entire group. By the end of the three months, I became the Grand Prize Winner of the class!

Observation

Miles said, “Once again, your story amazes me.”  He noted that over time it became evident that I’m able to face steep challenges, look them in the eye, and then move past. The question was asked, “How do you do it?”

Rules for Engagement

Here is my approach to drumming up the gumption to tackle difficult hurdles:

  • Plant your feet to tell yourself “You can do it”
  • Envision the big picture and all the good that overcoming the challenge will bring
  • Chart out a plan for doing what’s necessary to overcome the hardship
  • Persevere each day because even the smallest amount of progress will increase your motivation to continue until you feel victorious
  • Keep track of your progress and the next steps to pursue
  • Arrive at your destination feeling proud

Next Steps

Now that you know you are able to move past the first hurdle, draft a plan listing future hurdles to be overcome. Likewise, note the benefits from pursuing these one by one.

Future Success

If that last question brought a smile to your face, then you have a plan cut out for you. Being of this mindset is the beginning for developing a strong personal brand.  Make the New Year your best one yet by striving toward the Smooth Sale!
