Friendly caution here to check how you come across to others.  The question that turned me off was, “Are you open minded enough to meet?”  Was I supposed to answer, “No, I’m close minded?”   

I personally find these types of questions very manipulative.   In my opinion, instead of working to attract more prospects, clients and sales, these questions will kill most opportunities.

An old-fashioned expression comes to mind, “Treat others as you wish to be treated.”  When you hear others do something that offends you, make certain you avoid doing the same, and always be of the mindset to proceed in a friendly manner just as you would appreciate others do for you.  This was the basis for my success in corporate sales and my book, “Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results.”

You may be wondering if I will be meeting with this person.  The answer is “Yes” because I am very adept at hearing what people need and perhaps I can be of service to her.  The entrepreneurial mind always looks for opportunity everywhere.  

Job seekers should also look for opportunity everywhere.  Many ideas may be found in my latest book, “HIRED! How to Use Sales Techniques to Sell Yourself On Interviews.”

You never know what will come out of a conversation.  So yes, i am open minded, but approach others very differently.  Your communication style is a part of your marketing and branding messaging and together they become a part of your business development.  When you communicate well, you attract wider and larger audiences to your business.  The repeat business, referrals and testimonials soon make for a very Smooth Sale!
