Have you ever sat down to do work on the computer and your mind went blank? Of course, a running to-do list is best to have for every working day so you never waste time. However, we all have “those moments” when we wonder if vacation is a possibility.
The best strategy I have found to overcome these occasional moments is to pick up the phone and start calling the people whose business cards you collected that just happen to be scattered on your desk, or the prospects in your database and past clients. You can begin the conversation as “I was just thinking about you and thought it would be nice to connect by phone.”
You will be amazed by the conversations that develop as well as new potential business. Some prospects will convert to clients, while clients may be so delighted to hear from you again they will admit they need additional services. The mere act of reconnecting does wonders for entrepreneurship.
The same may be said of reconnecting with past co-workers or checking in to see if a job you interviewed for is still in the works. It’s the human connection that makes the difference in successful selling or acquiring whatever it is you desire. The marketing message behind all of this is you care. It’s amazing how few people actually take the time to do this. Wouldn’t you rather make a warm call than a cold call? It’s friendlier and produces a more authentic conversation.
Next time you find yourself staring at the computer screen, challenge yourself to make some phone calls and you may be pleasantly surprised just how easy it is to build business and relationships that get results by doing so. You will definitely be headed for a Smooth Sale!
