How are you connecting?

In the early days of learning about social media, I was given advice to develop my rules for connecting and not waiver from them.  After all, any time you disregard a rule for business or career, you disregard your personal brand.  In turn this negatively affects your integrity.

Some of the rules shared, I agreed upon:

– Messaging reflects mine, is at least similar and/or inspiring

– Worthwhile information; can learn from it

– Friendly and helpful messaging

I stay away from negative thought, poor language choice, and ranting.  My preference is to have a picture attached and there be a reason why we would want to connect with one another.   

Done correctly, the connections become ones of friendship. Eventually offers of collaboration and opportunity come about to once again spiral upward.  Intuitively look at the invitation to determine if the fit is right for you.  In person too, the connections should be felt upon meeting and the desire to help one another should be there.
