Five tips you may implement today to improve sales

Last week, I met a representative who seemed to mirror my approach to sales.  “Ruby” was inquisitive as to my priorities and desired outcome along with an attached timeline.  While she spoke on a professional level, she also attempted to get to know me personally to further build our budding relationship.

By the end of our brief conversation, I knew I wanted to work with Ruby.  Circumstances were in the way that needed to be cleared up. I relayed the predicament but also quickly gave her a timeline as to when it was expected to be resolved.  Ruby understood. Deep down, I wanted to implement today, but knew we needed to wait until everything and everyone was in order.

“Not Now” leaves the window of opportunity open

We both follow these 5 steps to keep sales fluid:

Ask for an improved date and time

Many reasons exist as to why someone may not be instantly ready to acquire your service.  Put insistence aside.  Ask when an improved date and time might be and note it on your calendar.  Alert the person you look forward to reconnecting at that time.

Non-aggressive strategies sell the most

Follow-up is essential to implement today to improve

This topic alone is the single biggest reason most salespeople lose the sale.  They get cold feet feeling afraid that they may be turned down again or referred to as a bad person for having interrupted someone’s day.  So they scratch the contact off their list.   This is obviously a lose-lose procedure.

Following up with everyone you encounter is a strategy by itself that will greatly increase sales.

Exchange Updates

An improved approach is to remind the prospective client he suggested this particular day and time for you to check in.  Ask if the timing is still good and that you would like to hear his updates.  This almost always encourages the person to agree to the conversation.

Friendly follow-up encourages further dialogue

Establish Meetings

The follow-up alone sets the ambience and the beginning for developing a sound relationship.  Most likely you surprised the person with the follow-up given most freeze in this regard.  So if your prospect does not have a lot of time to spare for sharing news, ask for a firm meeting time.

Thoughtfulness coupled with professionalism advances the sale.

Credibility

Using the steps listed above will work to your favor for building credibility. Implement the tips today to improve tomorrow.

Today a big smile came across my face when I saw a Tweet message from Ruby.  Like me, she inquired about my previously mentioned timeline A few more questions were asked and then agreement came that she would become my representative.
