Tell us…

An interesting communication exercise among salespeople was shared with me yesterday.  It wasn’t the exercise itself, but how each sales professional approached the subject matter regarding a brief introduction.  The instruction was to introduce oneself as if at a function with a brief high level summary of the company.

As entrepreneurs, we need to do this exercise all the time.  And as job seekers, you need to present this type of overview on initial interviews.  Here are the results of the meeting:

  1. One person got up early in the morning to practice for over an hour; her presentation was good.
  2. The next person did not rehearse ahead of time but was natural and the manager seemed to like this presentation the best.
  3. A third person was mediocre
  4. And most interestingly, one person memorized an opening word for word straight from corporate training.  This presentation was liked the least

It was clear from the exercise that rehearsing helps in some way but memorizing is the worst thing one can do because it is not natural.  When one speaks in their own words with meaning from the heart, it will make a big difference in opening more doors to getting to the sale.  You demonstrate you are the leader with your communication expertise.

These tips should lead you to the Smooth Sale!
