“KISS: Keep it Simple Stupid…”
During the first formal sales training I ever experienced, I heard the instructor declare, “KISS: Keep it Simple Stupid.” Two conversations today brought that saying to mind, and it’s an excellent reminder of how one should communicate most ofl the time for career, business development and personal relationships.
When people go on at length about a subject or complicate the matter with too many possibilities, the listener loses interest. In the case of business sales are lost, and in the case of interviewing the job is given to another.
A better approach is to listen carefully to the question asked of you. Clarify to make certain you understand all of the possibilities surrounding it. Clarifying enables you to “simply” position your answer honestly and to meet their requirements while showcasing your talent. When it comes to providing additional detail, zero in on what matters to the hiring manager or potential client most by providing an interesting real-life example of what you are talking about.
In essence, keep your dialogue brief, simple and tailored to the other party’s interests. This serves to build your personal brand and trust in you. By so doing, you will be far more likely to hear HIRED! or experience the Smooth Sale!
